Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat: Interest-Free Roof and Room Loan

Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat (اپنی چھت، محفوظ چھت) is a Punjab government interest-free loan for households living under unsafe roofs. It was created after a roof collapse in Kahna killed 14 children, and the digital portal opened on 17 July 2026.

Do not confuse it with Apni Chhat Apna Ghar, which is a different programme for building a new house. The two share a portal, and the similar names cause real confusion.

What you can borrow

  • Rs 500,000 to strengthen or rebuild an unsafe roof — repaid at roughly Rs 4,700 a month over nine years
  • Rs 1,000,000 to add an extra room or storey — repaid at roughly Rs 9,300 a month

The loans are interest-free and the government pays the processing fees.

Before you apply

No genuine Punjab government scheme charges a fee to register. Only .gov.pk addresses are official — several lookalike domains advertise this programme and collect CNIC data.

Details here are drawn from Dawn, Radio Pakistan and Business Recorder reporting of the launch. We were unable to reach punjab.gov.pk to verify them against the portal directly, so confirm the current terms on the official site or the helpline before you commit.
