How to Get Government Help in Pakistan: Register, Check Eligibility, Apply
Most government cash support in Pakistan does not come from an application form. It comes from being registered in the right database. Here is how to get registered, check what you qualify for, and apply safely.

If you are asking "Pakistan government se amdad ke liye kya karein?" (what should I do to get help from the government?), the answer surprises most people. Most government cash support is not something you apply for with a form. Governments pick families from a registry, a database built from household surveys. If you are not in the registry, no application will reach you. If you are, support can arrive without you applying at all.
So the first steps are always the same: get your household registered, keep your record correct, and check your eligibility with your CNIC.
Step 1: Make sure your CNIC and your family's records are in order
Every scheme checks your CNIC against NADRA. Before anything else:
- Make sure your CNIC is valid, not expired.
- Make sure your children have B-Forms and your family is registered together in NADRA's family tree.
- Make sure the SIM you use is registered in your own name. Many schemes, like the PM fuel relief, only work from a SIM on your own CNIC.
Step 2: Register in the right registry
There are two registries that matter most:
| Registry | Run by | Used for | How to register |
|---|---|---|---|
| NSER (National Socio-Economic Registry) | Federal government, BISP | BISP Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, Nashonuma and many federal subsidies | Free survey at your BISP Tehsil office |
| PSER (Punjab Socio-Economic Registry) | Government of the Punjab | Punjab schemes such as the Nigehban Card and other provincial relief | See Punjab Socio-Economic Registry |
If you live in Punjab, register in both. They are separate databases, and being in one does not put you in the other.
Other provinces run their own relief, often through their own apps. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for example, uses the DASTAK app for some schemes. See KP disaster compensation.
Step 3: Check what you already qualify for
- BISP (all Pakistan): send your CNIC number to 8171, or enter it on BISP's official 8171 portal. Helpline 0800-26477. See BISP Benazir Kafaalat.
- Punjab: call 1000 (Maryam Ko Batain) to ask about Punjab relief and complaints. See Maryam Ko Batain.
Step 4: Apply for schemes that do take applications
Some schemes are open to anyone who meets the conditions and do take applications, usually online or by SMS. Examples as of September 2026:
- [PM Fuel Relief Scheme](/schemes/pm-fuel-relief-scheme-petrol-subsidy): Rs 100 per litre off petrol for motorcycles, rickshaws and cars up to 800cc. Register by free SMS to 9771.
- [CM Livestock Asset Transfer to Rural Women (ATTRW)](/schemes/cm-livestock-asset-transfer-to-rural-women-scheme): free animals for rural women in Punjab, on the attrw.punjab.gov.pk portal.
- [Hi-Tech Farm Mechanization loans](/schemes/cm-punjab-high-tech-farm-mechanization-finance-program): interest-free loans up to Rs 3 crore for farm machinery.
- [Imam Masjid honorarium](/schemes/cm-punjab-honorarium-cards-for-imam-masjid): registration through your Assistant Commissioner's office, not online.
For every scheme we cover, see the full [government schemes list for 2026](/schemes).
What to prepare before applying
- CNIC (and B-Forms for children)
- A mobile number registered in your name
- A bank account or mobile wallet in your name, if the scheme pays into one
- Scheme-specific papers: land record (fard) for farm schemes, vehicle registration for the fuel scheme, a domicile certificate for some youth schemes
Step 5: Protect yourself from fraud
Fake scheme websites and SMS messages are everywhere, and they often rank above official sites in Google. Follow three rules:
- Official websites end in .gov.pk. Registration and surveys are never charged.
- BISP messages come only from 8171. Anything else is fake.
- Never pay an "agent" to add your name to a list or to release a payment.

Frequently asked questions
Hukumat se paisay kaise milte hain? (How do I get money from the government?)
Register in NSER (and PSER if you live in Punjab), then check your eligibility with your CNIC on 8171. Cash programmes like BISP Kafaalat pay the families their surveys find eligible, into an account in the woman's name.
Are there "free money" schemes I can apply for online?
No government scheme gives money to anyone who simply fills in a website form. Sites that promise that, especially ones asking for a fee or your bank details, are scams. Genuine cash support goes to households selected through NSER or PSER.
How long does it take after registering?
It depends on the scheme's payment cycle. BISP pays quarterly. Provincial relief such as the Nigehban Card is paid in rounds, often before Ramzan. Registering early means you are in the data when the next round is selected.
