Children Heart Surgery Program

Overview

The program aims to ensure timely and quality medical care, reducing waiting times and increasing the capacity of government hospitals to handle pediatric heart surgeries. The victory is to save the lives of over 5,000 children who die annually due to lack of timely heart surgery and provide relief to families across Punjab and beyond.

Under this program, six government and private hospitals will offer pediatric heart surgery facilities in the first phase (initially rolled out in Lahore, Multan & Rawalpindi), with expansion to additional hospitals of other districts of Punjab in the second phase. Eligible patients will receive "Child Surgery Cards" for access to treatment and the program will also increase the number of specialist surgeons and staff.

The Chief Minister children's heart surgery program provides comprehensive accommodations for children with heart diseases including pediatric heart surgery, cardiac surgery wards, HDUs and play areas for children. If government hospitals are full, children can receive treatment in private hospitals. The program also increases the number of specialist surgeons and staff to enhance capacity and features a dashboard to monitor progress.
